FG stops Obono-Obla as property recovery panel boss
The Federal Government has barred the Chairman, Special Investigation Panel on the Recovery of Public Property, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, from acting in that capacity.
Besides, he was instructed to henceforth, get clearance from the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, (SAN) before issuing official statements.
In a letter, dated November 1 and issued by the AGF, he was directed to promptly provide a detailed report on the activities of the panel to the minister for onward transmission to the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The correspondence noted that he was suspended for acts contrary to the terms of reference of the panel.
The letter equally noted that the activities of the committee had contravened established administrative procedures and protocols in the nation’s civil service structure, insisting that he strictly complies with the directives henceforth.
Malami’s memo was said to have emanated from an earlier one sent to Obono-Obla by the Vice President.
According to the statement signed by the media office of the AGF, the Vice President had expressed his concerns on the activities of the panel which “run contrary to the enabling Act establishing it.”
