Former NHIS boss condemns media trial in N327m scandal
Former Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Dr. Femi Thomas, has regretted the absence of protection for astute and patriotic persons in public office, lamenting that the culture of media trial of officials of government during investigations would have a cumulative negative effect on persons, who want to join public service to make a difference.
Thomas made the observations in a press conference, at the Eagles Park, Lagos during the week; while denying media reports associating him with the enrolment of ghost-enrollees in the scheme that led to a fraud of N327m. He disclosed that the alleged fraudulent enrolment happened prior to his assumption of office.
Rejecting the allegations, which some national newspapers attributed to the Independent Corruption Practices Commission (ICPC), the former Chief Executive Officer urged the Federal Government to amend the NHIS Act.
