Gombe APC alleges INEC reluctant to comply with Tribunal order on forensic examination of election materials
The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Gombe has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to comply with the order of the Election Tribunal, to allow the party conduct forensic examination of materials used in the last governorship election in the state.
Mr Karu Ishaya, Acting chairman of the party, told news men in Gombe on Tuesday that the electoral body had been giving excuses to avoid compliance.
He said that they were about to commence the exercise yesterday in Akko Local Government, only for INEC to frustrate them.
“One wonders why the complaints are coming up now, after we had mobilised everything to the office, to do that work.
“As it is now, the exercise could not be carried out because the counsel to INEC directed the Electoral Officers there, not to allow the inspection and photocopying of the documents,” he said.
He said that members of APC were law-abiding peopleand would not take the laws into their hands.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the tribunal had granted the request of APC and its governorship candidate, Inuwa Yahaya, seeking for permission to inspect the materials used during the 2015 governorship election in Gombe.
Contacted for his reaction, INEC spokesperson in Gombe, Malam Mukhtari Gidado, declined comment, saying that the issue was a legal matter.
