Government vows to make restiveness in Niger Delta History
• Warns Against Pipeline Vandalisation
Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, at the weekend in Asaba, Delta State, said efforts are being made by Federal Government to ensure that violence and restiveness in the oil producing Niger Delta region remain a thing of the past.
Speaking at the Nigerian Entrepreneur Summit and Honour (NESH), Osinbajo revealed that government would achieve this by assuring there is peace and stability.The Vice President, who spoke through the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachukwu, said the present administration has set for itself what he called “Ambition Target,” with very strict timeline to tackle, as it were, the needs of people in the region.
He said: “The achievement of this target will ensure robust sustainable development of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Producing Areas for fostering peace and prosperity in the nation. Federal Government is concerned about ensuring that host communities in the region are fully involved in the process of development of resources located there. Federal Government is making efforts to aid development and create employment in the Niger Delta region through the Modular Refinery Initiative.”
