Govt urged to check proliferation of security uniform
The Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service, Rivers State Command, Ishaka Abdulmumuni Haliru, has called on government to provide measures to check proliferation of Immigration uniform. The Comptroller made this call when he reacted to the alleged death of an immigration officer during the State and National Assembly re-run elections in the state.
Haliru confirmed that the victim was mistaken for immigration personnel due to his uniform, stressing that he was rather a staff of a private security agency known as ‘Peace Corp’ operating in the state.
“We did not lose any personnel during the March 19 re-run election, I’m also impressed that our men deployed for the election exhibited professional conduct, they synergised with other security agencies to carry out their lawful duties of ensuring peace and security during the election,” he said.
Haliru, however, condemned the involvement of private security officers in what he described as a sensitive national assignment like the Rivers re-run election, adding that such involvement was illegal.
