Group faults planned sharing of private data

‘Home appliances emit more radiations’
A group, Paradigm Initiative, has insisted that it was unlawful for “MTN to arbitrarily use, distribute or grant third-party access for the processing of users’ data.”

Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Dr. Kayode Fayemi, had disclosed in a communiqué that the body was to adopt access statistics to strengthen the distribution of palliatives donated by organisations and persons.

The pronouncement followed an update by the telecoms firm’s Chief Transformation Officer, Olubayo Adekanmi, on the ongoing work by the NGF secretariat to estimate the vulnerability profile of all states based on their populations, age risk, international travel profile, population density, state contiguity, epidemiological metrics and spending patterns.

In a statement yesterday in Abuja, the group noted that while efforts to mitigate and control the spread and sting of the novel coronavirus were appreciated, the existing and sacred fundamental rights of users must be protected at all times.

Besides, telecommunications operators have dismissed the connection of wireless technologies with the widespread radiation across the globe.

They, rather, contended that home appliances were more anti-health owing to their alleged high radio activeness.

The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), yesterday, in Lagos, noted that contrary to reports, there was no scientific evidence whatsoever supporting any nexus between the spread of COVID-19 and 5G or electromagnetic waves.

Its chairman and Head of Operations, Gbenga Adebayo and Gbolahan Awonuga, referenced a seven-year scientific study published last month, which claimed that 5G had no detrimental health effects generally.

The telecoms firms stressed that it had become important to dismiss public health concerns relating to telecommunications cell towers.

According to them, “in these unprecedented times, there is need to ensure the resilience of telecommunications networks to support the delivery of vital health services and sustained economic recovery.”
