TO reduce the pains and sufferings associated with old age, Outreach Hospital Group, a foremost first class health care service provider, recently organised a free medical treatment for the aged in society.

According to the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Efunbo Dosekun, “In the developing countries, old people and retirees are neglected by the government, their children and society, unlike in developed countries where welfare schemes are available and old peoples’ homes and free medical treatment are also provided to increase their longevity.

Desekun said this during a health fair for elders and retirees. The event was organised with the support of Anu Dosekun Health Care Foundation in Lagos, where over 135 senior citizens, retirees, guests and their families attended.
She disclosed that she had pledged to help women, children and the elderly, a vision which she had been nursing for over 40 years .

The Executive Director, God’s Heritage Foundation (Grey and Strong), Olori Esther Oni-Ashafa, who was a special guest disclosed that her foundation had over 175 elderly members.

She urged the corporate bodies, philanthropists and government to support and aid the cause of the elders.
The President of Muslim Association, Alhaji Tajudeen Ayeni, a beneficiary retiree, eulogised the hospital programme as a laudable for filling the gap where government has failed to provide for retirees and elderly .
“I have greatly benefited from the free medical talks and services,” he said.

The 67-year-old retiree pleaded with the government and local councils to collectively support the primary healthcare schemes.”

A retiree and widow, Mrs. Anthonia Adeyanju, said: “I am very grateful to God and the hospital. The event has given us the opportunity to relate with other elders and network with them”.

The high point of the event was free health screening on dental care, eye, blood sugar, blood pressure among others and the distribution of free drugs to participants.
