Gunmen abduct 14 oil workers in Rivers

Unknown gunmen yesterday abducted 14 workers of Nestoil Plc when they were returning from their base in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State.

The bus conveying them was hijacked by the gunmen, who barricaded the Omoku /Elele and whisked to unknown destination.

The Guardian gathered that the armed men barricaded  the Omoku /Elele road when the oil workers were returning from work to their base in Port Harcourt , hijacked the bus conveying them and took them to an unknown destination.

A source from the ONELGA who confirmed the incident said the workers were abducted at gunpoint.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omoni Nnamdi confirmed the incident also, saying that they had recovered the bus.

Nnamdi said police detectives had intensified efforts to track down the gunmen and rescue the victims.

“We are combing the bush in that area. Our men are all over the bush. We are on top of the matter; we are doing our best to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers”, he stated.
