High cost of flour: Master bakers threaten to close shop if government fails to intervene
The Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, Kogi State chapter, has called on the Federal Government and the state government to create a conducive environment for their business to thrive, else they might be forced to close shop.
This was contained in a statement, signed by secretary of the association, Chief Bamidele Adeniyi Gabriel, and made available to The Guardian, yesterday.
It said the call to government at all levels has become imperative and instructive, due to the critical role the industry has been playing in areas of massive employment creation and taxation in the prevailing economic downturn.
One of their major challenges, the statement pointed out, is astronomical increase in prices of raw materials and ingredients for bread making, compared to their profits.
The association also decried the problem of double taxation from various government agencies, saying it has compounded their already bad situation.
