IPAC tasks electoral commission, security agents on neutrality

Ahead of the rescheduled governorship polls, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security operatives to be neutral in their operations.

The chairman of the council, Muhammad Lawal Nalado made the appeal in an Eid-el-Kabir message to Muslims

He enjoined Nigerians, irrespective of their political, ethnic or religious affiliations, to pray for the success of the present administration.

According to him, IPAC received the news of the postponement with surprise, adding that it was done without proper consultation with the major stakeholders, including the IPAC.

Nalado, who is also the chairman of the Accord Party, pleaded with the political parties involved and other concerned citizens to accept the decision in good faith.

He said their cooperation was needed for peaceful election and transition in the state.

Nelado advised: “INEC should in future ensure that they consult widely and schedule future elections strategically to avoid clash with other activities. This is the only way to avoid a repeat of this unfortunate situation.”

He tasked the security operatives to ensure peace throughout the election period.

Nevada also spoke on the economic challenges facing the country.

He said though the policies of this administration may be painful, at the end, they would restructure the country on the part of greatness.

To this end, he solicited attitudinal change among Nigerians. According to him, encouragement, rather than criticism, is what the government needs as it strives to chart a new economic pathway for the country.

He also urged the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) to avoid violence and work together with the Federal Government.

The Accord Party chairman bemoaned the attacks on oil facilities in the region, which have negatively affected the revenue base of the country and destroyed the environment of host communities.
