Two days after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as winner of the Edo governorship election, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osagie Ize-Iyamu, yesterday called for calm among his supporters, while he mulls over his next line of action.

It would be recalled that his party had rejected the results even before the official announcement by INEC. But in a television broadcast, yesterday, Ize-Iyamu appealed to the people of the state who feel dissatisfied with the outcome of the election not to take the laws into their hands, or engage in violent demonstrations, or destruction of public property.

He said he would consider three options available to him and his party. “We can go to the elections tribunal, we can call a world press conference to let the world know what transpired, or we can leave everything to God. No matter how you feel, please conduct yourselves in civilised manner because the will of God must prevail.

If God says I, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, will be governor, no amount of rigging can stop it. So, we must keep hope alive. Let us continue to hope and believe in our country.
