JTF uncovers illegal oil syndicate, seizes N52m product
Operatives of a task force in Delta State, code-named “Operation Delta State Effurun,” yesterday smashed an illegal oil bunkering syndicate and confiscated 310,000 litres of illegally refined diesel worth N52 million.
Twelve suspects were arrested in connection with the act while seven tankers loaded with the product were also seized by the task force.
The ommander of the taskforce, Col. Alhassan Mohammed told journalists that the suspects and the seized tankers were handed over to the officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCPC) at the sector’s office in Effurun for further investigation and prosecution.
He said that since the task force was reactivated, members of the operatives had been silently bustling the activities of illegal oil bunkerers and burning down their illegal refineries in the swamps and creeks.
Mohammed who said that the suspects were arrested at different locations, promised to frustrate the operations of criminals in the waterways, creeks and land.
Receiving the suspects and tankers, the Deputy Commandant of the NSCDC, Chukwu Austin, commended the synergy between his corps and the military in the state.
