Militants surrender weapons in Imo
Scores of armed men suspected to be militants in Ohaji/Egbema region in Imo State, yesterday surrendered their weapons to the government.
The suspected militants who surrendered at the Government House, Owerri, said by their action, they expected the government to enlist them in the amnesty programme.
The occasion was attended by Governor Rochas Okorocha, security chiefs in the state, monarchs and politicians.
Okorocha commended them for their decision to renounce violence, adding that they had listened to his pleas to allow peace reign. He later urged them to give the President Muhammadu Buhari government time to incorporate them into the amnesty programme.
He assured them that their request would be sent to the president.
They urged the Federal Government to provide them with means of livelihood.
