Mimiko bags Youth Parliament Leadership Award
ONDO State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has been honoured by the Nigerian Youth Parliament with the Leadership Award of Excellence in recognition of his giant stride in youth engagement and empowerment.
The Award was presented to him by the Speaker of the Nigerian Youth parliament, Rt. Hon. Abba Waziri, accompanied by members of the parliament, at a short ceremony held at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office in Akure.
Waziri affirmed that Ondo State was truly blessed with notable people in Nigeria, among whom is Dr. Mimiko, who has been in the saddle of leadership in the last Six years in the state.
He noted that what they saw on ground in Akure and some parts of the state during their tour clearly demonstrated that Mimiko has genuinely impacted positively the lives of his people. He said Mimiko truly deserves the award having listed his laudable programmes, which include the Free Shuttle Buses scheme, free Health services, particularly the Mother and Child Hospital, urban renewal and the absolute peace in the state among others as the uncommon achievements of the governor.
Waziri described Mimiko as a governor, who truly has the interest of his people at heart, saying that ‘we saw primary school pupils and their secondary schools counterparts entering fine buses and large number of patients at the Mother and Child Hospital. We were informed that these programmes were run free of charge by Your Excellency.
You are a change to the Nigerian Youth. Truly, you are an exemplary leader, a role model to the youth”. Responding, Governor Mimiko thanked the Nigerian Youth Parliament for the honour and promised that the award would spur him to do more for the people of Ondo State and Nigeria.
While describing members of the Youth Parliament as role models for the Nigerian youth, Mimiko noted that their contributions to the nation building and youth development would remain indelible.
