The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) has commended the Federal Government for appointing Professor Is-haq Oloyede as registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). NASU said he has the capacity and wherewithal to reposition the examination body.

This came two weeks after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) kicked against his appointment and called for his probe.A congratulatory letter to Oloyede, signed by Mr. Peters A. Adeyemi, NASU General Secretary described Oloyede as a visionary, honest, transparent, purposeful and accountable administrator and academic, whose track records speaks volume.

The union maintained that the great feat Oloyede performed during his tenure, as University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) vice chancellor cannot be easily forgotten as his footprints abound everywhere in the university.

ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, had said at a newsmen in Lagos recently that “Given our inside knowledge of his anti-democratic and anti-union antecedents, Professor Oloyede is the last person that we expected to be so honoured with a national appointment of that status in the education sector.”

Ogunyemi who said that Oloyede’s anti-workers stance stood out in the case of the sacked 49 lecturers from UNILORIN. NASU, which described Oloyede as a man of peace and promoter of peaceful co-existence as the Secretary General of Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, added, “You stand out as a promoter of religious tolerance, something that is fast eluding the country today.”They expressed confidence in his ability to sanitise the conduct of matriculation examinations, while tasking him to improve the welfare and working condition of JAMB workers.
