Ogun State has warned against an alleged plan to disrupt its ongoing electioneering campaigns in the area.

The party also charged the Nigeria Police and Department of State Security (DSS) to be alert to forestall political misconduct capable of undermining the peace in the state.

A statement signed by one its leaders, Alhaji Abiodun Sotinwa, in Abeokuta, insisted that the party remained law-abiding “despite several provocations”.

Sotinwa, however, expressed concern over the alleged vandalisation of the party’s secretariat and destruction of its flags in the local government.

He alleged that the attack on the party came ahead of the Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s visit to Ikenne

The PDP chief said, “we hereby seize this opportunity to appreciate the Nigeria Police Force, and the Department of State Security for providing security to us as we have exercised our rights to freedom of association”.

He added, “the Peoples Democratic Party remains law-abiding and has been of good conduct despite several provocations and record of various attacks on our secretariat in Remo, as recently as Friday, 17th of January, 2015. Also, our secretariat in Ikenne town was vandalized and our flags destroyed, simply because                       Governor Ibikunle Amosun was due to pay a visit to Ikenne town”.

His words: “We hereby urge the appropriate authorities to continue the good work of providing a safe environment for all to pursue their political agenda while we similarly appeal that no sacred cows should exist. All should be treated fairly, equally and those that err should be brought to justice”.

“It is pertinent to express our fears that all this trumped-up assertions and innuendoes are a prelude to imminent attack in order to disrupt our robust ongoing campaign”, the statement indicated.

“We hereby call on the good people of Ogun State to stand firm in the exercise of their franchise on the journey to restore Ogun State to good governance, prudent expenditure and transparency”, Sotinwa stated.
