Okechukwu APC laments plight of Ndigbo in the hands of Boko Haram
THE South East chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Sunday lamented the plight of Nigerians of South East extraction following activities of the Boko Haram Islamist group in the north east part of the country.
Speaking at Eke in Udi Local Council of Enugu State during the burial of Mr Godwin Aniakor, a refugee of Boko Haram insurgency, the spokesman of South East Zone of APC, Mr Osita Okechukwu lamented that Mr Aniakor’s health worsened soon after his dislocation from Biu in Borno State where he had lived .
‘Whether we like it or not Boko Haram killed our kinsman. Yes they didn’t shoot him directly, but since his return from Biu his health worsened. He was traumatized and couldn’t pick up the pieces of his life.’
Mr Okechukwu lamented further, ‘My pain is that many Igbos and indeed bulk of refugees dotting the whole country are in agony and excruciating pains following their dislocation from their abode.’
“How do you feel if you are Major General Anthony Haladu Hananiya (rtd) whose house and the entire Hong village, in Adamawa State was razed by Boko Haram fire? Am at a loss why a C-in-C allowed such carnage to escalate?”
When reminded of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s visit to Maiduguri, Okechukwu retorted, “What has that got to do with the death of our kinsman and the horrendous sorrow of millions of Nigerians? His visit is too little too late. I personally challenge Mr President to tell Nigerians why he didn’t muster the political will to chase away the Boko Haram from the onset?
“Methinks Nigerians should hold President Jonathan culpable for the quantum escalation of the Boko Haram insurgency, senseless killings and wanton displacement of people. For his failure to listen to elder statesmen like Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, and host of others and hence the under equipment, under funding and low morale of the military.
“One sees the visit of President Jonathan to Maiduguri as election motivated. Otherwise how can it take the C-in-C years to come to terms with such important show-concern visit?
In company of Mr Okechukwu was the chairman, APC Udi local government area, Mr Jude Anyadibe, deputy chairman, Mr Humphrey Aniagor and a host of others.
