Ogun agrees with labour to pay Workers
There were strong indications, yesterday, that the disagreement between the Ogun State government and the state workers may soon come to an end.
The workers had on Wednesday, March 16 suspended their10-day old strike for two weeks to give the government time to pay their salary deductions.
But yesterday, Governor Ibikunle Amosun held a four-hour close door meeting with labour leaders in his office to appeal to the workers to bear with his government.
At the end of the meeting, both Amosun and the workers’ leader, Comrade Abiodun Olakanmi disclosed that both parties are almost reaching agreement, adding that they have scheduled another meeting in which they will sign agreement on the way forward.
Amosun, who spoke to journalists immediately after the meeting said despite the dwindling Federal allocation and the huge financial commitment of the state, Ogun State has been managing to pay its workers’ salaries as at when due.
The Governor appealed to workers to reason with the government, saying “we will pay, but we can’t give what we don’t have, even the one we are doing, we are running round the clock to make sure that our salaries are paid as at when due.”
