Ondo 2016: PDP chairman faults court verdict

Ondo State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Clement Faboyede, has rejected the court judgment against his governorship candidate in the forthcoming election, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), describing it as a fraud and a rape on the rule of law.

Faboyede, who addressed a press conference in Akure, yesterday, denounced the Friday verdict by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which ordered Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Barr. Jimoh Ibrahim as the party’s candidate.

He described the ruling as an “unholy alliance to subvert the will of the people” and a rumour that was fuelled by lack of necessary legal interpretation of the ruling that was granted by the Abuja court.

Picking holes in the proceedings, Faboyede disclosed that the PDP had submitted petitions against Justice Abang to the appropriate quarters as they await the outcome of the investigations.

He added: “Legal steps have been taken to demonstrate the validity of our candidature and expose the flaws that are targeted at subverting the will of the Peoples Democratic Party and the generality of the people of Ondo State.

“That the attempt to re-write the judgment by changing the date of 2019 general elections as contained in the earlier judgment of 29th June, 2016 and linking it with the governorship election of 2016, which was never the subject of the earlier suit would certainly be a subject of investigation by the appropriate statutory authorities.”
