The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, has commended the Lagos State House of Assembly for promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba, through conducting its Thursday plenary session in Yoruba language.
Oba Ogunwusi, who gave the commendation, when the Speaker of Lagos Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, led other members of the Assembly on a courtesy visit to the monarch’s palace in Ile-Ife, also applauded the legislators for the recently held Yoruba Summit, aimed at making learning of the Yoruba language compulsory in public and private schools in Lagos State.
Oba Ogunwusi, however, urged the lawmakers to immortalise the founding father of Lagos, Olofin Ogunfunminire, especially considering that Lagos is unique in the history of Yorubaland.
Earlier, the Speaker, Obasa, had thanked the monarch for his presence at the Yoruba summit and the giant strides he has taken in promoting unity among traditional rulers.
