Claims Task Force, Police Compromised

Two months after the Lagos State Government through the Acting Commissioner for Transport, Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi, announced the suspension of transport union activities in Oshodi indefinitely, Elegushi in a chat with The Guardian revealed that he was not aware that the union officials only obeyed the order partially for two days and returned to the park to continue to collect illegal monies.

It would be recalled that the state government on June 5, announced the suspension of union activities in motor parks in Oshodi after violence broke out, leading to the death of Alhaji Rasaq Bello a.k.a Hamburger.

Elegushi claimed that the report he got was that the order was obeyed and union activities are still suspended, as the state government has not lifted the indefinite suspension placed on union activities in Oshodi.

When he was told that in announcing the suspension, he said a committee will be put in place to give the state government feedback, Elegushi said all the feedback they gave was all positive and that they are maintaining the pronouncement, as everything is going on smoothly, nobody is out there collecting anything from anybody.

It would be recalled that Elegushi said that while the suspension lasts, there would be no collection of tickets/fees from commuter buses operating in the area. This has not been followed as buses still pay all kinds of levies in Oshodi.
