Osun residents protest against poor electricity supply
AGGRIEVED citizens in Osogbo, Osun State yesterday staged a peaceful protest against long hours of darkness occasioned by poor electricity supply and high bills by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
The protesters armed with placards bearing different inscription on irregular supply of power to their areas accused management of the electricity firm of crippling their businesses and subjecting them to attacks by hoodlums, particularly in the night.
They marched through some major roads in Osogbo including Station Road, Old Garage, Oja-Oba and later visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo and the office of the IBEDC at Old Station Road where they lodged their complaints.
Spokesperson of the group, Adeniran Tella, said the people were fed up with irregular power supply and high electricity bill IBEDC gives them.
He accused management of the firm of disrupting the business of artisans saying throwing their neighbourhood to darkness also increases anti-social activities in their area.
Tella said the people were compelled to take to the streets to show dissatisfaction with the poor service being provided by the electricity firm.
He said despite the poor supply of electricity IBEDC is fond of generating high fixed bills even where consumers have electricity meters.
