Oyo police arrest fake lawyer, army colonel
Elijah was said to have been duping unsuspecting people of money and other valuables.
The State Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade, while parading the suspect said Ogunsanmi also posed as a prophet to defraud people who are in need of spiritual assistance.
While answering questions from reporters, Ogunsanmi said, “I paraded myself as a lawyer, though I am not a lawyer. I love the profession. I have never duped anyone as a lawyer. I have been working as a prophet for the past 20 years. I only collected the sum of N500,000 from a lady named Evelyn Iboje under the pretext of offering her solution to her problems.”
Some of the items recovered from him include; a barrister wig, a forged identity card of the Nigerian Bar Association and land sales agreement.
In a similar vein, Babatunde Idris, a male, aged 62 has been arrested for allegedly parading himself as a retired army colonel.
The CP said, “The suspect promised one Yinusa Adebayo Mustapha that he could help him get a certificate for oil lifting importation allegedly obtained over N40 million which was paid into his account for that purpose.
Speaking on how he got the army letterhead papers, the suspect said, “I have a brother who is a general in the Nigerian Army. He sent me on an errand with one of the letterheads. I copied the letter and did the documents myself, I signed it and impersonated the person. I only collected the sum of N16 million from Alhaji hoping to help him get certificate for oil lifting importation.”
Oyebade also said a gang of robbers popularly known as “one chance” who go about in a Micra car used as a bait to lure unsuspecting passengers into its net and dispossessing them of their valuable property was also nabbed.
The suspects include; Adebisi Olarotimi, male, aged 23, Adeleke Oludamilare, male, aged 28, Joy John, female, aged 23, Tessy and Edward, female, aged 38.
