PDP reconciliation move suffers setback
• Inauguration of reconciliation panel dumped
Effort by contending factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at reconciliation ran into hitch, yesterday. The inauguration of a 28-member committee, tasked with reuniting all aggrieved members failed to hold. The Transcorp Hilton venue of the event was deserted and no member of any of the factions was in sight.
The publicity department of the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee, which managed to respond to questions on phone, simply said the inauguration had been put off indefinitely.
The two camps, made up of aggrieved former national chairman of the party, Ali Modu-Sheriff, and caretaker committee, headed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, had been scheduled to inaugurate the peace team.
There are indications the committee will not be put together again because most of the state governors are angry over recent happenings, especially moves by the Modu-Sheriff camp, which the governors considered inimical to peace.
But the PDP governors have equally been accused by the Sheriff camp of working against the peace panel, alleging many governors had an agenda to continue the culture of impunity in the party.
