The All Progressive Congress (APC), governorship candidate in the 2015 elections in Rivers State, Dakuku Peterside, has blamed Governor Nyesom Wike for the sack of six police officers.

Peterside in a mail to The Guardian in Port Harcourt on Monday said, Governor Wike took his immunity to a ridiculous level, alleging that, it was his desperation to grasp power at all cost that led to the loss of many lives and destruction of properties in the state.

He said that if Wike had not forced his way into the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) collation centre with the aid of the security officers, where the returning officer was compelled to declare a winner of the election, when all the results were yet to be collated, the officers would not have been facing such consequences over their action.

“Wike clearly had no business storming the collation centre with policemen and his thugs. He took his immunity to a ridiculous level, thus endangering the lives of people and career of security personnel,” said Peterside.

“Not too long ago, he told Rivers people not to participate in the probe panel set up by Inspector General of Police, but the same governor is now crying to Police Inspector General, Ibraham Idris, to reveal those behind the killing of two policemen during the rerun election.

“The same man who vowed not to fund security agencies in the state again is now the one saying he is ready to support them. How do you associate Rivers people with such a man who is not straightforward?” he queried.
