Pipeline vandalisation frustrates public water supply in Cross River

Vandalisation of water pipelines in Cross River State has frustrated water supply to residents.

In the days of former governors Donald Duke and Liyel Imoke, there was regular water supply to homes, but the pipes went dry as several lines were vandalised.

With the rehabilitation effort by Governor Ben Ayade, water is running in some taps of Calabar, Akamkpa, Ugep, Abi and few others.

The Managing Director, Water Board Limited, Chief Victor Ekpo and his team, at weekend, met with elders and youths of Akamkpa Local Council to complain of vandalising of water facilities.

Ekpo said the community youths recently stopped its staff from carrying out their duty of putting in place a new generator.

He assured that water supply in Calabar and other parts of the state would be steady, as enumeration of houses has commenced to ensure water gets to everyone.

The elders and youths, though complained that Akamkpa being the only local council generating revenue to the state is lacking potable water, promised to secure the facilities, if only the state government would keep to its promise of providing water to the communities.

Secretary to the Council, Mr. Charles Inok and Chief Emmanuel Akim spoke on-behalf of the elders.
