Policemen in Kebbi are more professional, says report
Lagos, FCT, Rivers, Anambra get poor rating
A report released on the Professional conduct of Policemen in Nigeria shows that Police officers in Kebbi State are the best behaved, even as professional misconduct against personnel serving in Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja and two other states takes more than 50% of the total complaints lodged.
The report released by the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) of the Nigeria Police Force, during the week shows that for six months since the rating started, no complaint of Police misconduct was received from Kebbi State.
“There is no media report of police misconduct from that state. We believe that the Police officers in Kebbi are more professional than any other in Nigeria, as even the media has not reported any unpleasant encounter between the Police in this state and the citizens.
“It is not that the people are ignorant, the Police in Kebbi are professional, unless there is anything to the contrary to prove otherwise, it is there in the report,” the officer in charge, Abayomi Shogunle, acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, told The Guardian.
As a result of this, the Acting Inspector General of Police (Ag.IGP) Ibrahim Idris has directed all Command Commissioners of Police (CPs) across the country, via a circular to urgently address issues brought to their attention by the CRU, especially as it relates to Police officers’ professional misconduct.
The report which covers the second quarter of 2016, said that “a total of 906 complaints were received from across the federation,” this however showed a decline in the number of complaints coming from the public to the unit as the first quarter report released in April showed that 1054 complaints were received from January to March 2016.
Shogunle attributed the decline to compliance” by Police Officers to professional best practices in the conduct of their duties. ‘’
In the report, Lagos, FCT-Abuja, Rivers and Anambra state Police Commands account for over 50% of the total complaints received (54.02%), while Jigawa, Yobe and Kebbi state Police Commands are at the bottom of the ranking with no case reported, just as Kebbi State Police Command continue to keep a clean sheet with no case reported since the inception of CRU in November 2015.”
