Political elite is dividing Nigeria, says Amosun
Amosun specifically accused Nigeria’s political elite of using religion and ethnicity to propagate their interests at the expense of the people and urged the media to dwell more on issues that seek to engender coexistence especially as the 2019 general election draws nearer.
Amosun spoke yesterday at a media workshop of the state house press corps with the theme, “The Role of The Media in Peace Building: 2019 in Perspective”, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Amosun, while noting the role of the media in 2019 argued that projecting inflammatory remarks by politicians would not augur well for development of the country. He called on the media to identify and play down issues that seek to threaten the peace of the nation.
The governor who welcomed the press corps to Ogun, which he noted as the root of journalism in Nigeria, said his administration was poised to consolidate and build on the foundation laid by the founding fathers of the profession.
While commending the media for the support given to the administration of President Buhari so far, he reiterated the need to shun sensationalism and things that will further fan the embers of division in the country.
