Presidency donates relief materials to IDPs in Taraba

idp-nemThe Presidential Initiative for the North East (PINE) on Friday donated relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Borno, camping at different locations in Jalingo.

The Secretary of the body, Alhaji Umar Gulani, presented the materials to Gov. Darius Ishaku for onward distribution to the IDPs.
Gulani told the IDPs that the Federal Government was committed to ending insurgency and communal clashes in parts of the country to enable all IDPs to go back to their homes.

He urged the IDPs to support government’s efforts by maintaining peace at their host communities.The materials we have brought for you today are meant to alleviate your sufferings at the moment.Government is working tirelessly to put an end to all forms of insurgency and crisis across the country so that you go back home.

I, therefore, urge you to be at peace with your host community and among yourselves as a mark of appreciation and support to government’s efforts.

Represented by the Liaison Officer of PINE, Mr Monday Oviangbede, Gulani explained that the organization would present the materials to seven Local Government Councils in Taraba, hosting IDPs.

Receiving the materials on behalf of the IDPs, Ishaku thanked the presidency for the gesture, which he said, was aimed at making life meaningful for people affected by insurgency.

Ishaku urged the IDPs to support government to ensure peace, saying no that development would never take place in an atmosphere of crisis.

The governor, who was represented by the state’s Head of Service, Mr Daniel Angyu, prayed God to grant Nigerians peace and unity.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that items donated include bags of maize, beans, millet, pieces of mattresses, buckets, plastic cups and cartons of soap, among other items. (NAN)
