• Promises review of revenue allocation formula if elected
• Jonathan backs David Mark’s presidential ambition

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, also a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has approved the party’s screening committee for presidential aspirants headed by the immediate past Vice President Namadi Sambo.

He also announced the appointment of Dr. Okey Ikechukwu as the spokesperson and Head of Media and Strategic Communications for his 2019 presidential campaign.

A statement from his media office stated that Ikechukwu is to oversee every aspect of the campaign that would impact on the profile, general perception and branding of Governor Tambuwal as a presidential candidate.”

Besides, the former Speaker, House of Representatives, has promised to review the revenue allocation formula in the country if elected.

Tambuwal, who was in Calabar at the weekend as part of his nationwide consultation with party faithful, said: “Critical area my administration will focus on will be to ensure the review of revenue allocation formula that is long overdue to ensure that more are given to the states and local councils to guarantee sustainable development at the grassroots.”

He said it is a standard constitutional requirement that the revenue allocation formula be reviewed but lamented that successive administrations since the return of democracy have refused to ensure the implementation of that constitutional charge. In another development, former President Goodluck Jonathan has supported the presidential ambition of Senator David Mark.

He said the former Senate President would strengthen the bond of unity in Nigeria.

The former president, who spoke while hosting Mark in his Yenogoa residence, said Nigeria was in dire need of unity.

Jonathan said that it would take a man with strength of character and clear conscience like Mark to rebuild and foster unity in Nigeria in 2019.

“We are only existing superficially and this is very dangerous,” he said.
