Soldier unleashes dog on journalist at NDA graduation

dogA soldier (military police) yesterday unleashed a giant dog on the Kaduna State Correspondent of Television Continental (TVC), Mr. Tesem Akande, during the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 63rd Regular Course Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.

Expectedly, the beast dealt harshly with the reporter inflicting several bites on him in the horrific encounter, which got Akande limping for several hours. He later got medical attention at a hospital where he was rushed in Kaduna city

According to Akande, spokesman of the academy, Captain MA. Yahaya, called him hours later to sympathise with him over the incident saying, “Take it
easy, we regret the dog’s action.”

Akande, while showing the dog bites to his colleagues, said he was still perplexed at what he did that warranted the soldier to unleash the beast on me.
“On arrival at NDA, I was directed to where to park my vehicle. I complied with that, after which I and my crew members subsequently rolled out our work tools, and we were on our final routine check, and onward entry into the academy, when the unimaginable soon happened. From nowhere, a fierce looking dog,

K9 as they call it, suddenly made its way to my leg. The dog had a field day, leaving me with deep cuts to the chagrin of onlookers.“I eventually managed myself back to Kaduna city for medical attention, leaving my cameraman behind. But I was amazed, as the military police officers who were to manage the dogs showed no remorse at what had happened. Only an official of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), came to sympathise with me.

The FRSC personnel who pleaded anonymity told Journalists that, Akande was the second victim of the day,” after the dog’s chain slipped from the hands of the negligent military police officer.
