SSS arrests APGA ex-national chairman, Umeh

Former APGA National chairman, Umeh

FORMER National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the party’s candidate for the upcoming Anambra Central Senatorial District election, Chief Victor Umeh, was yesterday brought to Abuja following his arrest by the Department of State Security (DSS) in Enugu, Enugu State.

It was not possible yesterday night to get the DSS to comment on his arrest, as there is no known spokesperson for the department for the media to interface with.

A reliable source said he was picked on the strength of some petitions that he is a supporter of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

A source said: “I am right now at Aguluzigbo, country home of Chief Victor Umeh and his wife told me that he was arrested in the morning by men of the security service and taken to their state headquarters.

“But at about 11 am, he was taken from the state headquarters to Abuja in a pick-up van. They said that they received petitions against him that he supports IPOB.”

Meanwhile, Umeh’s media aide, Stan Okeke, yesterday evening, confirmed the arrest.

He said his boss was whisked away by DSS officials following a “petition from Peter Obi, Uche Ekwunife and Uzu Awka that he is sponsoring the activities of IPOB, MASSOB.”
