Teaching hospital decries indebtedness
THE management of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) yesterday said it loses five to six million naira monthly to patients.
The Chief Medical Director, Professor Michael Ibadin made the disclosure at a press conference while responding to allegations of corruption levelled against him by the leadership of the institution’s chapter of Association of Resident Doctors (ARD).
The doctors, had in a statement signed by Dr. Omoregbe Owen, deplored the state of facilities at the establishment, alleging exploitation, corrupt practices and other sundry issues by the management.
Ibadin, however, said the losses were incurred from advance care given to patients in lieu of payment, adding that the daily fee of N1,200 for adult patients were approved by the management board and had been “in place for over two years.”
