The U.S. has appointed Peter Bad as its new ambassador to Libya, three years after the death of Amb. Chris Stevens in a terrorist attack against the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, the Libyan media reported on Thursday.

The reports said Bad worked as U.S. ambassador in Nepal in 2012.

After the ratification of his appointment by Congress, the new ambassador would begin his mission to Libya, succeeding Amb. Deborah Jones. She presently operates from Malta after her evacuation from Tripoli in 2014.

Jones, who arrived in Libya in June 2013, is an Arabophone diplomat, who is member of the think tank Middle East Institute in Washington. She also served as ambassador in Kuwait from 2008 to 2011.
