UI Students Protest Epileptic Power Supply, Water
Students of the University of Ibadan ((UI), yesterday, marched round the campus protesting over non availability of quality power supply and drinking water in their hostels.
The aggrieved students, whose placards bore different inscriptions condemned the school authorities for their insensitivity and promised protest would continue until their demands for 24-hour electricity and water supply are met.
However, the school’s spokesperson, Olatunji Oladejo has said students’ welfare remains their topmost priority.
Oladejo disclosed that the school authorities are striving to ensure students enjoy electricity round the clock.
He said: “We used to have electric power from Ibadan Electricity Company for between 18 and 24 hours, but this has dropped to10 hours. We have been able to supplement it, though it’s a lot of investment and strain on the management. But we have resolved that power supply would be on from 10am till 2pm and 11pm till 6am.”
Oladejo said the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Olayinka would meet with the students and explain things to them.
