Why Obi Is Fingered In Umeh’s Travail
A combination of factors must have informed the rush by Chief Victor Umeh to associate his former protégé and governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, with his brief brushes with the Department of State Services.
Investigation by The Guardian revealed that the postponement of the senatorial rerun poll earlier scheduled to hold on March 5, 2016, jolted Umeh, who is the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the election.
The former APGA national chairman was campaigning vigorously as a possible lone contender until the Abuja Federal High Court ruling that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to include the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on the ballot.
It was that order, which provided the possibility of a Peter Obi candidacy on the PDP platform that motivated Umeh to revise his campaign strategies, including attacks on Obi, who as former state governor, is still loved by the people.
