Winners emerge in Oando’s cooking competition
OANDO Marketing understands the importance of cultivating the right habits in growing youths. On Thursday, 10th of December, the company wrapped up the 2015 edition of the O-Gas Teens Can Cook competition. The annual “O-Gas Teens Can Cook” initiative sponsored by Oando Marketing is organized to encourage the cooking skills of secondary school students, while they embrace and cultivate the culture of cooking with clean cooking fuel, Liquefied Petroleum Gas.
Over 200 schools participated in the competition and 10 secondary schools got through to the Grand Finale, held at the multi-purpose hall of St. Finbarr’s College Akoka, Lagos State. After a 60 minute cooking session, Ogunbajo Joy, a sixteen-year old student of St. Timothy College, Lagos, emerged the best junior chef in Lagos state, as her local rice and ofada sauce delicacy was adjudged to be the best dish. Balogun Barakat of Bolade Junior Secondary School, Oshodi came in second position, while Eguase Edith of Ransome Kuti College Mushin, claimed the third position. Incidentally, an elated Ogunbajo enrolled as a dancer in the dancing competition segment, before registering as a chef in the cooking segment at the last minute. She accredited her victory to the combined efforts of her mother who taught her how to cook from an early age and her teacher who encouraged her to continuously develop her skills.
The impact of the competition on Ogunbajo goes far beyond the 1st prize of a gas cooker and a 12.5kg cooking Oando O-Gas cylinder, her culinary knowledge has also been greatly enhanced with a better understanding of the numerous benefits of the LPG and its positive impact on the environment.
