Sir: I dedicate this letter-article to the memory of the late Prof. Kenneth Onwuka Dike, the first African to be the Vice-Chancellor of University of Ibadan. He hailed from Awka in Anambra State, Nigeria. He died in 1983. I denounce as fraud of monumental proportion, a situation in which some university administrators are said to abuse their positions by recruiting teachers from kindergarten to teach in the university system. Isn’t that the height of ọ̀bàyéjẹ́ (world spoilers in Yoruba parlance)? In the good olden days, teachers were recruited from colleges of education and other post secondary academic institutions. Are we not in a real boko haram era? Why, then, are Nigeria’s rulers waging war on the Islamic sect, Boko Haram?

Persecution of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, started under the presidency of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua/Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan (GEAJ), and perpetuated by GEAJ and the current President, General Muhammadu Buhari (GMB). The motivation for this letter-article is the claim that GMB has reduced the level of insecurity in Nigeria. How can you say an oppressor/suppressor is improving security? At best, what is obtainable under an oppressor/suppressor is temporary and apparent security. Past Nigeria’s rulers also had their own apologists who deceived Nigerians by appealing to patience, but with what final outcome?

When a tree is cut but not uprooted, it will sooner or later shoot-up new life in new branches. Boko Haram was suppressed in the late 1970s and early 1980s. After some decades, it came again into limelight, because all the conditions for its existence and survival are intact: commission of haram/intolerance by Nigeria’s rulers. Nigeria’s legislators, the presidency, and people in ministerial positions earn millions of naira monthly, while the downtrodden earn N18, 000 minimum wage, monthly. Deceptive Christians and Muslims talk of security where there is no justice. People are fooled that the world was redeemed.

How can anybody decide for another person how to practise his or her Islam? Thus, those who need repentance, as the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, said are Muslim imperialists. Nigeria’s constitution stipulates religious freedom, while Christo-Islamic elite impose their own religions on Nigeria. How can the country know unity, justice, peace, and plenty, without separating religion and politics? Is GMB promoting security through warfare and opposition to dialogue? Is he promoting security by flexing muscle with Boko Haram, Niger Delta militants, and Biafra agitators?

Is GMB promoting social security by selling dollars at official price to pilgrimage-makers, at the expense of Nigeria’s economic advancement, when abject poverty is tugging at overwhelming Nigerians? Will lopsided fight against corruption and non-accountability for recovered looted funds promote security? Is GMB promoting security by refusing to outlaw cattle-roaming and allowing Fulani herdsmen to ravage crop farms, and kill crop farmers? Is it refusal to implement the recommendations of confabs convened toward Nigeria’s unity and peace that is promoting security? Is refusal to restructure Nigeria promoting security? Are Nigerians really secured, economically and otherwise?
