Sheriff accepts verdict, calls for unity

• No victor, no vanquished, party declares
• ‘Battle to change the change is fully on course’

The sacked National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has congratulated Ahmed Markafi on his victory at the Supreme Court.

Sheriff, who was until yesterday the party’s helmsman, sued for unity via his twitter handle ‏@SenAliSheriff.

“The Supreme Court has spoken. I congratulate Senator Makarfi. We must all put our hands together to channel a new course for the PDP.

“Moving forward, we must embrace true reconciliation, so as to be united as a formidable option to send the All Progressives Congress (APC) packing in 2019,” he tweeted.

In the spirit of sportsmanship, the party has declared a no victor, no vanquished stance. It also disclosed that efforts would be made to enthrone a true and genuine reconciliation in the spirit of fairness, justice and legality.

Makarfi, who dropped the hint in Abuja, said the reconciliation would not mean denying people positions that are legally theirs.

His words: “We had always known that ultimately justice will be done. The battle we fought is not just for the PDP but for Nigeria and Nigerians.”

However, former Senate President and member of the party’s Board of Trustees, David Mark, has declared that the battle to change the change was fully on course.

He noted: “We should not have gone this length but it has happened. It is not victory for PDP. It is victory for democracy. I hope we have learnt our lessons. We will never again allow family quarrel to go this far. With the victory, the battle to change the change is fully on course.”
