The annual Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA) 2016 was a memorable one for Aramide as she clinched ‘Alternative Artiste of the Year’ award at the event.

Expressing her joy, the Afrosoul diva said, “I never saw it coming, and I am grateful to God for yet another opportunity. I have the best supporters. Shout out to everyone that voted.”

Earlier this year, the ‘Funmi Lowo’ singer took the entertainment industry by surprise when she won the Best Female performance category at the Headies. She was hosted in Calgary, Canada on September 10.

Aramide’s music quest began in 2006, when she contested on now rested ‘Star Quest’ one of Nigeria’s most competitive music talent hunt shows. In 2008, she was a part of a show called ‘Divas Unplugged’ in Jos.

The show had all the leading female artistes in the Nigerian music industry and her participation in this show was very challenging but rewarding, while her performance and involvement was very inspirational.

Her latest single ‘Love Me’ featuring ‘Orente’ crooner, Adekunle Gold, has topped various music charts in the last six weeks and currently receiving airplay on radio stations within and outside Nigeria.

This is in addition to her award-winning single, ‘Iwo Nikan’, which she released on February 4, 2015, under the Baseline Music imprint. The single, which talks about unconditional love, was instant hit as it opened doors for her and the music label. The song fetched her Best Vocal Performance at the Headies Award 2015.

Also to her credit is ‘I Don’t Care’ an up-tempo rendition that tells off the haters of her relationship. There is ‘Feeling This Feeling’, which talks about love and friendship, and ‘It’s Over’, a more sober Afro-soul ballad.

Having featured on songs with other Nigerian artistes, which include ‘Good Man’ by eLDee, an offshoot from a campaign ‘Violence Against Women’, Aramide has worked and shared the stage with Banky W, Sound Sultan, Tiwa, Dr Sid, MI, Jesse Jagz, Waje, Sarz, and Yemi Alade among others.
