Chidiobi is Queen Of Emerald
After a tough contest with fellow finalists, 25 year-old Stella Chidinma Chidiobi from Aguagbaja Village, Umana Nidiagu in Ezeagu Local Council of Enugu State, has emerged winner of the Queen of Emerald Nigeria World 2017.
Chidiobi, a graduate of Financial Management Technology from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, beat 29 other contestants to clinch the title, with a brand new Toyota Camry car, N50, 000 monthly allowance, with other mouth watering prizes to go with the crown.
The Queen of Emerald Nigeria is a health and entertainment programme that seeks to celebrate the talent and intellectual abilities of young Nigerian women and raise beauty queens whose primary responsibility is to champion the fight against cervical cancer in Nigeria and beyond. Tagged Beautydom, this year’s edition was staged at the Bespoke Event Centre Lekki, Lagos.
Aside Chidiobi, who got the big prize, runners-up include at the contest include Miss. Silvia Okoye as Queen of Emerald Universe 2017, Miss. Monica Okoye as Queen of Emerald Nigeria Africa 2017, Miss. Ifedolapo Ayomide as the Queen of Emerald Culture and Tourism 2017 and Miss Benedicta Ingobro as the Face of GEMS 2017.
The quest for the 2017 overall queen began with auditions held across 17 states of the federation, where 30 young beautiful ladies were selected for the grand finale in Lagos.
The event, which also doubled as the Emerald Nigeria Awards (TENA), saw Tchidi Chikere awarded Philanthropic Nollywood Man of the year, while Desmond Elliot clinched the Philantropic Political Leader of the year. Singer Oritse Femi received the Philanthropic Male Artist of the year, while Dj Cuppy was named the Philantropic Disc Jockey of the year.
Other awards include Osita Iheme as Philanthropic Youth Ambassador of the year, Adepoju Olukokun was named the Philanthropic Man of the year, Mercy Makinde was recognized as the Philanthropic Woman of the year, and Ayo Animashaun became the Philanthropic Media Personality of the year.
Other awardees include Victoria Nkong as the Philanthropic Entertainment Personality of the year, the Chief Executive Officer, Tiannahs Empire, Mrs. Toyin Lawani as the Philanthropic Most Successful Entrepreneur of the year 2017 and Queen Rita Jonah emerged as the Philantropic Beauty Queen of the year.
Speaking on the reason behind the pageant, the Project Director, Uche Okafor said, “Whenever we ask our pageants why they want to participate in the contest, what they always say is that they love the vision, which is championing the fight against cervical cancer. We are raising beauty queens for a cause and we want them to let ladies out there know all about cervical cancer.”
Okafor urged women to arm themselves with the right information and avoid certain habits such as having different or multiple sex partners, smoking and indiscriminate use of contraceptive saying such practices can lead to cervical cancer. He advised them to always go for cervical cancer test every three months to determine their status.
