Easter Sunday, also known as Resurrection Sunday and also called Paschal Sunday, Pascha (Greek, Latin) is a joyous festival to honor the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, described in the Bible New Testament as having occurred in the third day of His burial after crucifixion by the Romans. It is the culmination of the Passion Week of Jesus, preceded by lent (or Greater lent), a forty-days period of fasting, praying and penance.

Most Christians refer to the week before Easter as “Holy Week” or “Passion Week”. It contains the deep of the Easter Triduum, which includes Maundy Thursday commemorating Maundy and the Last Supper, as well as Good Friday commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus.

In Western Christianity, Eastertide begins on Easter Sunday and lasts seven weeks ending on the fiftieth day, Pentecost Sunday.
In Eastern Christianity, the season of Paschal begins on Paschal and ends on the fortieth day, the feast of the Ascension.
Easter is also linked to the Jewish Passover by much of its symbolism, as well as its position in the Calendar. Easter customs vary across the Christian world and include church services, exclaiming the Paschal greeting, decorating the church with flowers, and decorating Easter eggs ( symbols of the empty tomb). The Easter lily a symbol of the resurrection traditionally decorates the altar area of churches on this day and for the rest of Eastertide.

Additional customs and tradition and symbols have become associated with Easter and are observed by both Christian and some non- Christians include egg- hunting, Easter bunnies, and Easter parades. The religious origin of Easter finds representation in Christian imagery, while the familiar brightly colored eggs and hopping bunnies that have become so popular in the secular world comes to us from the Spring festival of Western antiquity with the familiar eggs and bunnies all symbols representing fertility, new life, and rebirth. Spring flowers have always represented fertility, abundance, and renewal, Easter is a joyous holiday observed in the Spring season to celebrate the resurrection of Christ and the new life springing from the earth. After a long winter, Easter reminds that once again green leaves will grow from trees, the sun will come out and flowers will pop out of the ground to fill a bleak world with yellow, white, pink, purple, and more. With their soft, delicate petals and sprouting young buds, its no wonder Easter flowers are also fitting emblems at this time of the year. Flowers are a perfect way to add warmth radiance and feelings of cheer and meaning to any celebration. Pastel and aromatic Easter flowers are calming, the pure scent like the gentle sound of a baby’s giggles. They awaken the senses and adorn and enliven the home suffusing it with new life the symbols of new beginnings.

Easter flowers are often a central theme to religious celebration, but are also part of secular Easter festivities. So choosing colorful and fragrant Easter flowers is the best way to fill a space with symbolism and meaning of Easter.
