Easter groove with Seun Kuti @ new Africa shrine
Back from his international music tour that saw the Egypt 80 Band play in South America, as well as major cities in Australia, Afrobeat Prince, Seun Kuti, will today, Saturday, March 26, thrill guests at the New Africa Shrine, Ikeja.
The all night gig, which starts from 9pm, will see the band treat guests to the best of Afrobeat music. There are indications that the gig will see Seun sample some of his latest tracks, while his old hits will get the crowd dancing. As usual, Egypt 80 will definitely perform major hits from the late music legend and Afrobeat creator, Fela Anikulapo Kuti; it has become a sort of tradition for the band to celebrate the late musician with his vintage tunes.
Meanwhile, Seun is on the verge of opening a new page in his successfully music career with the establishment of a record label, which focus of giving opportunities to young talents to actualise their dreams of breaking into the mainstream. Having started his music career at a very tender age after the death of his father, Seun sure knows how it feels to start a music career in Nigeria.
Though the label is yet to be unveiled, inside source informed that the Afrobeat maestro has already recorded and produced few tracks with his first artiste, who will be unveiled soon.
I’m at that stage in my career where I want to create a platform that will groom young talents and give them the opportunity to explore the industry. Very soon, we will make it public, but I assure that we’ve set the ball rolling,” he said.
On his latest music tour, he said, “it has become a tradition for the band to go on long tours every year. This time, we were in South America where we played festivals and private gigs in Mexico, Chile and others. From there, we moved to Australia, where we perform in major cities, including Melbourne and Sydney. But, we actually started from Senegal, where we played a major festival before leaving for South America,” he explained.
