Inne Festival lights up Issele-Ukwu community
The celebration, which runs till Thursday next week, promises to be grand and more fascinating as it marks the third official outing for the young and amiable King of Issele Oligbo kingdom, Obi Agbogidi Nduka (MNSE).
According to a community member, Chas Uju Nwam, preparations have been made to showcase the festival as one of the best tourist attractions in the country. Nwam described Inne Festival as an occasion where all the titled chiefs of the town dress in the best of their chieftaincy regalia with a traditional dance group from their domains dance to the palace to pay homage to the king, Obi Nduka.
“This year’s Inne Festival will be a conspicuous improvement on the previous editions as it is billed to hold for five days. This will enable it to attract more tourists and feature activities such as inter-village traditional dance competition among the nine villages of Issele-Uku.
“Other activities lined up for the period include a traditional fashion show and raffle draws in which winners will cartway with fantastic prizes.”
Nwam, therefore, called on the people of Issele-Uku at home and in Diaspora to key into the programmes to make it a huge success.
The Director of Finance, Inne Festival Committee, Frank Mordi, said Issele-Uku has a lot to thank God for the year.
“The two recently joined the National Grid through individual efforts of indigenes. Also, the traditional ruler, who just returned from a foreign trip, said it was to rob minds with his subjects abroad on how to attract foreign investors for job creation and youth empowerment.
“The king, a highly cerebral culture icon has insisted that every aspect of Issele-Uku culture would be followed in detail. According to him, culture is the people’s way of life and people without culture are like a tree without a root.
“The king believes that Issele-Uku people are loveable, peaceful and hospitable and that should be the watchword for all his subjects at all times.”
According to Nwam, security has been beefed up to curtail criminal and sinister activities during and after the five-day festival.
