British International School wins rugby league in Ikeja
British International School, Vitoria Island, Lagos, at the weekend defeated Temple Secondary, Ikeja, 5-3 tries to emerge winners of this year’s All Rugby Schools Elite developmental programme league, sponsored by My Family Mobile.
The event, which took place at the Temple Secondary School Sports Complex, was entertaining as Olaoluwa Olatunde scored the first try for Temple Secondary School to open lead for his team in the early minute of the match. The British International School team gave their best to equalise, but Olatunde capitalise on the weakness of the BIS defence to score another try, Temples Chidudem Ogah struggled to gives his team the first point of the day before the end of the first half.
After much pep talk from BIS coach during intervals, BIS came out committed to carry the day, as the team push harder to score another two quick tries through Ogar. With few minutes to the end of the game, Isaac Adigwe gave Temple the third try to keep his team in contention. BIS Fortune Chukwu and Mudiaga Aluya stole the show of the day as they scored one try each to give their School the needed victory.
Speaking at the event, Head Marketing, My Family Mobile, Israel Onasanwo, stated that the schools rugby championship was organised by My Family Mobile to assist groom talents in the sport at a tender age. He added that My Family Mobile range of products are geared towards keeping families united.
Also speaking at the event, Programme Coordinator of the championship, Seyi Opanubi, stated that the schools rugby league has succeeded to create family bond, which is the core value of the company.
“It is one year of hard work and My Mobile is happy to be part of part of this event. Our aim is to create family bond among children and parents through rugby. This year has been a success; I thank the coaches, teachers and parents for supporting us from the beginning of the year. We shall continue to do our best to develop rugby among students in the country,’’ he said.
Corona school won the primary school section of the league.
