PRESIDENT of Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure, Akin Akinbobola, has appealed to players of the team to show understanding and not allow the present financial crisis rocking clubs across the country to derail the objectives set by the team at the beginning of the season.

The club president gave the appeal while meeting with the players, who in recent times have not been committed to training sessions due to the current financial situation.

Akinbobola while condemning in strong terms the players’ attitude, pointed out that the current financial situation was not peculiar to a particular club or state.

“The management will not accept this type of development as it is capable of derailing the team from achieving its objectives of celebrating gold at the end of the season. The current financial challenges being witnessed is a national and global issue, we just hope you (the players) will understand it and try to cope for now as the problem will soon be a thing of the past.”

“We must understand that anyone that is striving hard to achieve success will come across several challenges, this current financial crisis is a big challenge capable of making us to lose focus. We must not allow it to consume us,’’ he said.

He charged the Micro Management of the team, led by the team manager and the coaches, to have very cordial relationships with the players so as to get the best out of them at all times.

“If the team manager and the coaches fail to have absolute control of the team, then it means something is wrong somewhere. It is important for the micro management of the team to have great and robust understanding with the players at all times in a bid to always get the best out of the players.

“We must remain resolute and strong in the face of all these challenges as we hope to achieve our desired objectives this season. We must realize the need to work hard so that we can be celebrated by the good people Ondo State and also by Mr. Governor at the end of the season.”

Responding, captain of the team, Abe Sunday, apologized on behalf of his colleagues for the unprofessional attitude and restated their determination and desire to realize the objectives of winning gold at the end of the season.

Sunshine Stars is on top of the table with 36 points from 19 matches after the first round of the Glo Premier League.
