Enyimba down Wikki, IfeanyiUbah hold Abia Warriors
Enyimba of Aba’s fading title hopes got a boost yesterday when the ‘Peoples Elephant’ beat Wikki Tourists 2-1 to move to the sixth spot on the table. Enyimba have one outstanding match and a win in that game will get them two points near leaders, Enugu Rangers.
Yesterday in Port Harcourt, the defending champions had to come from a goal down to subdue the hard-fighting Tourists, who also have title ambitions of their own. Wikki went ahead in the 42nd minute through a Godwin Obaje header off an Ibrahim Alhassan’s cross, but Enyimba drew level shortly before the break through the resurgent Nzube Anaezemba.
Anaezemba got his brace in the 50th minute to win the three points for the defending champions, who lost the reverse fixture in Bauchi 1-3.Enyimba now have 49 points, one behind FC IfeanyiUbah, who held Abia Warriors to a 1-1 draw in Umuahia, also yesterday.
Relegation threatened Abia Warriors took the lead through Ndifreke Effiong, but IfeanyiUbah equalised in the 86th minute through Ghanaian, Kojo Bah. The Nnewi boys are now fourth on the table.Rangers are on top with 54 points, Rivers United are second on 53, the same with third-placed Wikki, who have inferior goals difference.
