Nigeria Battles Brazil October 1
Nigeria’s U-17 female national team, Flamingoes, will depart for Jordan tomorrow for the 5th FIFA U-17 championship holding from September 30th–October 21st.

Head coach of the Flamingoes, Bala Nikyu yesterday released names of 21 players to fly the nation’s flag at the World Cup. The delegation will depart the shores of Nigeria aboard an Emirates Airline flight from Abuja tomorrow night.

The Flamingoes, who were quarter finalists at the last three editions of the championship (Trinidad and Tobago 2010, Azerbaijan 2012 and Costa Rica 2014), overran Namibia and South Africa home and away to qualify for Jordan 2016.

Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, an attacking midfielder with so much flair, and who is also the team’s leading scorer, tops the list of 21 that also includes Cynthia Aku, Patience Dike, Peace Efih and Folashade Ijamilusi.

Nigeria takes on Brazil on October 1 before matches against Korea DPR and England on October 4th and 8th respectively in the group phase.

The three goalkeepers listed for the battle of Jordan are Chiamaka Nnadozie (Rivers Angels); Christiana Obia (Martins Whyte Doves) and Agatha Thompson (Young Talent FC).

Those in the defence are Abidemi Ibe (Ibom Angels); Patience Dike (COD United Ladies); Ijeoma Kenneth (Rivers Angels); Ebunoluwa Adeboye (Rivers Angels); Akudo Ogbonna (FC Robo); Joy Michael (Young Talent FC); Opeyemi Sunday (Sunshine Queens), Happiness Titus (Greater Tomorrow Academy).

The midfielders are Christy Ucheibe (Capital City Doves); Peace Efih (Edo Queens) and Folashade Ijamilusi (Spring Soca Academy), while the strikers are: Oghenebrume Ikekhua (Delta Queens); Mercy Omokwo (Abia Angels); Rasheedat Ajibade (FC Robo); Arit Itu (Rivers Angels); Chidinma Okeke (FC Robo); Cynthia Aku (Rivers Angels) and Mary-Ann Ezenagu (Delta Queens).
