Idoko wants total support for Plateau United’s CAF Champions League bid
Chairman Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi, Mike Idoko believes Plateau United’s qualification to participate in the Confederation of African (CAF) Champions League is a national issue, which means that the Jos soccer outfit should be assisted in all spheres to ensure the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) champions adequately represent the country in the tournament.
Idoko, therefore, urged the management of all the clubs in the country to release players identified by the technical crew of Plateau United as necessary for a successful campaign in the CAF Champions League.
“Apart from Enyimba FC that adequately featured in the CAF Champions League, which it won back-to-back, no other club in this country has ever won it.
Enyimba’s victories should be attributed to Anyansi, who worked assiduously to ensure the team ruled Africa in the CAF Champions League. Since then, teams from North African countries have always dominated it.
“This time, we must all rally round Plateau United by releasing players the team’s coaches request for in the execution of its matches. We must not be selfish by holding on to the players the coaches see as good materials for the Champions League.
“Since over 40 years of the CAF competition, only Enyimba of Aba has won it twice in successive years. If it’s in terms of releasing the players of Plateau United’s choice, coaches of other clubs should be told not to hesitate to release such players to the team for the all-important national assignment. We must all come together to assist Plateau United,” said Mike Idoko.
