Mikel expects Terry to finish his career at Chelsea
John Obi Mikel has claimed that John Terry is likely to finish his career at Chelsea after signing a new contract with the Blues for this season, reports thesportsreview.com.Terry looked to be heading towards the exit door at Stamford Bridge after it seemed that the Blues were not going to offer the veteran defender a new contract.
However, the west London club eventually ended up giving the former England international a one-year deal to stay on at the club following the appointment of Antonio Conte as the club’s new manager earlier this year.
Midfielder Mikel now feels that the former England star is likely to stay at Chelsea for the remainder of his career after committing his short-term future to the club.
Speaking in an interview with Goal, Mikel said: “I think Conte played a big part in that contract that Terry got.“I think if Terry said no, then obviously I don’t think the club would have done that, but I think the fans as well got right behind him and the fans really wanted him to stay.
“I think he will definitely be in Chelsea forever, so I can always wish him well, even when he retires, I think he will always be involved with this football club.”
Mikel said he was very happy and pleased to see Tery staying Chelsea. “He lives right next door to me, he is my neighbour, so I spoke to him quite a lot when the whole thing was going through.
“I think for him, he is Chelsea through and through and couldn’t see himself playing somewhere else. That is the truth about it.“He wanted to stay, he wanted to stay and get, at least, one more year and then let’s see what happens with that. I am very pleased that the manager came to an agreement and offered him a new deal.”Terry and his Chelsea team-mates are currently preparing for their Premier League trip to Hull City this weekend.
